Tales of Puno

The story of our visit to Puno last summer told by our 7-year-old son, Daniel.

How to get there

You can reach from Lima by air with airlines such as Avianca or Latam. We recommend to visit Puno after spending a few days in the mountains acclimatising to the altitude. Cusco and Arequipa are good alternatives in preparation, both located 5-6 hours away from Puno (by land) and at lower altitudes than Puno (3,800mt above sea level). In terms of bus transportation, Cruz del Sur is a great alternative from both locations while Oltursa is another excellent option from Arequipa.

Where to stay

The most remarkable memories of our trip were from our stay in the Uros floating islands. If you are up for discovery and adventure, we definitely recommend you staying at a lodge in the lake Titicaca.

Uros Qhantany Located at the Uros islands, you will be hosted by a local family who will take care of your stay organising meals and local activities in the lake for you such as fishing, "Totora" picking, etc. We recommend to get in touch in advance with the lodge to confirm your arrival time. Not only they can arrange a pick up for you from the mainland to the island, but they will also coordinate the time of the activities you want to take part of during the day. The island is composed of a few rooms equipped with warm water and cover for the cold nights.

Sonesta Posadas del Inca Located in the mainland, it has one of the most breathtaking views of the Lake Titicaca and the premises are excellent.
