Festive holidays by the desert

People usually dream of white Christmas, but coming from a place where the holidays are enjoyed at 25 degrees Celsius, I can tell you it definitely has its charm.

We spent our last Christmas by the desert at Jumeirah Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi and here is everything you need to know.

Early arrival

Make the best of the day arriving early to the hotel. Located deep in the desert, you have plenty activities to choose from for the family to enjoy the surroundings. From horse riding and fat bike riding in the dunes to archery. If you have an adventurous eye, you can join a nocturnal animal hike to discover the creatures living in the desert.

Explore the heritage

Designed as a traditional Bedouin village, the resort will transport you to a world away from it all. The facilities built to enjoy the desert and sunshine are a perfect resemble of what life used to be in the earlier days.

A falcon show takes place every afternoon where guests can enjoy an impressive display of the falcon’s hunting abilities and learn about their importance to the country’s heritage. In our experience one of the best falcons shows we have enjoyed in the UAE!

A private visit to the camel tracks and camel souks can also be organized by the hotel, an opportunity to learn about the national sport and get close to these iconic loving animals.

Unleash

The private villa where we stayed had its own pool which when you are travelling with little active kids is always a good idea. It also allows you to be more flexible with times and celebrate those special family moments in an intimate way.

The resort’s infinity pool however, is nothing short of wonderful and the views at the golden hour are something you should definitely admire.

The award winning Talise Spa is located within the premises of the report and you can enjoy the facilities complimentary including a sauna, steam rooms, plunge pools, snow cave, and a traditional Turkish hammam. Don’t miss the hot rooms with salt from the Himalayas! Treatments are also available on request.

Arabic cuisine

Part of the Arab experience is certainly the food. Bait Al Hanine offers a Lebanese inspired buffet you can enjoy while sitting at the terrace overseeing the desert. There is plenty of choice of local dishes and delicacies for any taste. For a more authentic experience, you can dine among the majestic sand dunes at Al Mabeet Desert Camp accompanied by the sounds of live entertainment, inspired by Emirati traditions.

Celebrate

The festive spirit was present throughout our stay! From the arrival greeted by a lovely table of festive treats, to a surprising visit of Santa during the breakfast.

Activities are usually organised during special festivities and our kids enjoyed a treasure hunt and a cosy campfire the evening where they shared stories while eating roasted marshmallows. Learn more about Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort & Spa, here
